HyspIRI and SBG Community Science and Applications Workshop

August 15, 2018 - August 17, 2018

SBG is the Surface Biology and Geology designated observable identified in the recently released NRC 2017 Decadal Survey (DS) : “Thriving on Our Changing Planet: A Decadal Strategy for Earth Observation from Space.”]  SBG has candidate measurement approaches that are similar to the HyspIRI mission concept that we have been developing over the past decade.

The first day of the Workshop will review the results of the HyspIRI mission concept and our Comprehensive Report, developed in response to guidance from the 2007 DS. The second and third days of the workshop will be used for community inputs and discussion related to the Surface Biology and Geology targeted observable identified by the 2017 DS.  The SBG Science/Applications Summary of Earth surface measurements (Table S.2) includes geology, biology, ground/water temperature, snow reflectivity, active geologic processes, vegetation traits, and algal biomass. The SBG Candidate Measurement Approach: Hyperspectral imagery in the visible and shortwave infrared, multi- or hyperspectral imagery in the thermal IR.
