Coastal Zone Foundation will  offer a half-day short course on water quality on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Long Beach, CA, in conjunction with the upcoming ASBPA National Coastal Conference scheduled for Oct. 8-10. The course and conference will be held at the Westin Long Beach.

This will be an introductory course offering a review of the US 1972 Clean Water Act, along with discussions of surface water quality standards and compliance applicable to the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific coastal zones. Course materials will include management tools, primary contributors to water quality degradation, Best Management Practices (BMPs) for treatment, monitoring strategies, bio-indicators, local and state-level efforts for Coastal Zone Act compliance. Regional case studies and/or challenges and solutions will be included.

The course is offered as part of the foundation’s Certified Coastal Practitioner™ (CCP) professional credential, a broad knowledge base and understanding of the interrelationships that exist among different coastal professions.

To earn the CCP credential, candidates must complete a series of 10 courses offered by the Coastal Zone Foundation in cooperation with ASBPA. The CCP program provides participants with multidisciplinary instruction on comprehensive coastal management and defines the body of knowledge, which reflects best practices for coastal practitioners. To date, 44 professionals have earned this certification.
